Idowu Philips also known as Mama Rainbow in the movies, is a Nigerian veteran actress, mother, Grandmother, film maker, movie producer, and Master of Ceremony. She hails from Ijebu- Ode in Ogun State, Nigeria. She was born on 16th October, 1942. She has been very active in her career since 1965 till present. She was a nurse by profession before joining acting.
Her stage name ” Mama Rainbow” means Osumare in Yoruba Language, the name of the theatre group of Late Hubert Ogunde, who died in 1990. She worked as a certified nurse in general hospital in Nigeria for several years and occasionally acted in theatre. She ventured fully into acting after the death of her husband, Augustine Ayanfemi Philips, who worked closely with the late Patriarch of Nigerian film industry Sir Hubert Ogunde.
