Toyin Afolayan, a veteran Nollywood actress also known as Lola Idije, was credited with coining the famous ‘soro soke’ slang that took over Nigeria’s social media.

The Nigerian social media space is one that is typically made really fun and interesting through the use of slang that young people can identify with.

At present, a slang seems to be making waves on Nigerian social media, and it is the ‘soro soke’ lingo.

During the protests of EndSARS that shook many states in Nigeria, the slang seemed to gain more attention. Youths use it to know who, with flowery words, showed support for the cause or those hiding their true purpose. Literally, Soro Soke means “speak up”.
The veteran Nollywood star, Toyin Afolayan a.k.a Lola Idije, is now regarded as the originator of the slang by a number of people on social media.
For making use of the slang a lot in movies, the famous Yoruba movie celebrity was recognized and it won the hearts of youths in the country.
To give the actress credit for coining the slang, a man known as Deji Adenuga took to his social media page.
