Appeal court nullifies IGP’s recruitment of 10,000 constables

Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu’s 2019 recruitment of 10,000 constables has been nullified by the Court of Appeal.

The appellate court in a unanimous judgement delivered on Wednesday September 20, held that power to carry out the recruitment was exclusively that of the Police Service Commission (PSC).

The judgement delivered by the court of appeal insisted that the IGP lacked the power to make the recruitment for the police force,  and upturned the December 2, 2019 verdict of a federal high court in Abuja which upheld the powers of the IGP to carry out the said recruitment.
